My Journey
6 Month Supervisory Visit Today
Wednesday, May. 27, 2009 @ 3:19 p.m.

Today was our 6 month supervisory visit from our case worker. C was happy and showed off her smiles, claps, and maneuvering skills. Now we just wait for the judge to look everything over and to confirm the adoption in court.

Last week our case worker called me and left a message to get the visit scheduled. I was busy, and she actually called me the next day before I was able to return her call. I wondered why she was so eager to get the visit scheduled. We found out today that she has found another job closer to home that involves more counseling. It sounds like a good fit for her, and it starts in a few weeks. She said she still plans to go to court with us, and wasn't sure what the plan was for her replacement. She is currently doing the job alone. It originally was a job-share until our first case worker "retired." We first met our current case worker at M's adoption confirmation hearing, and she will be quitting after C's confirmation. So it looks like this case worker will have started and ended her position at our agency with us in court.

I talked with our case worker about a friend of a friend who I had heard had been recently placed with a "safe haven" baby through our agency. That's where you can basically abandon your baby within so many hours of birth at a hospital or other approved location and not get in trouble. Apparently they actually have had three safe haven babies placed for adoption in recent weeks. Two were in the same week. This is unusual for our agency. It has been over three years since they have placed a "safe haven" baby. This has allowed many of the families that have been waiting the longest to be placed with infants. Now the families who have been waiting the longest have been waiting just over a year.

So now we wait for court. I don't think our official 6 month period is up until June 23, but maybe confirmation can be scheduled before that. I don't know all the legalities. We do have the same judge as last time, so that is kind of neat. We told M that maybe this time she can be the one to pound the judge's gavel. I think we will have to get out her confirmation video soon so she can see what court is all about.
