My Journey
We 've Been Chosen - We Got The Call!!
Thursday, Aug. 11, 2005 @ 8:59 a.m.

We got "the call." We've been chosen!

I was sitting in front of the TV eating doughnut holes and drinking milk when the phone rang. It was our social worker, and she asked if I was sitting down because she had good news to tell us.

Yesterday a birthmom chose our profile, and she also signed the adoption papers to petition the court. She's the birthmom who brought the baby home for a few days and decided it was too much to handle. She's the one who likes sketching, swimming, reading, and playing video games. The baby is the one that was born on our anniversary and my husband's birthday! The birthmom looked at 6 or 7 profiles and really liked ours more than all the others. She's said to feel at peace with her decision.

We will be meeting with her Monday or Tuesday. We have to prepare a list of questions we want to ask her. At that time we may get permission to visit the baby in the home of those doing interim care. We also will need to decide if we want to take the baby home before the birthmother has gone to court. It's possible that it could take 4 to 6 weeks. During that time the birthmother can still turn back and change her mind.

Wow! There's so much to do and so much to think about. We need to go shopping! We need to decide a name! We need to decide who to tell!

Our social worker didn't have any statistics about the baby's birth, but she thought it was average. She's going to call me back with the details once the birthparent counselor arrives at work.

That's all for now. There will be more to come!
