Blinkies

My Journey
Distractions and Reading
Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2004 @ 3:00 p.m.

When my hubby got home last night and sat down to read the newspaper, I told him that I had called the adoption agency and they were sending some information. He said, "Oh, you're getting started on that?" I said that I thought it would be good to get some information and he agreed. I told him a little about the phone call, and left him to read his paper while I got dinner ready.

The day before we left for vacation I went to the library for travel books. I also got a book about adoption and some fiction books with adoption as a theme. One of the fiction books had a bad review listed in the library catalogue, but I got it anyway. I found that the review was right. The book, all about a Christian couple dealing with infertility and adoption, was boring. I kept reading on, hoping it would get better, but it didn't. I set it down after the first four chapters.

Now I'm in the middle of reading a book called China Run. It's about a woman from the US who is in China trying to adopt a baby. There is a mix-up at the orphanage and they want to take her healthy baby away and give her one with special needs. She and a couple of other parents flee and try to find a way to keep their little girls. It's a very good book, with lots of action.

Last night and this morning I did a little reading from the adoption book. I skipped around, looking for topics that applied to me. I found some interesting things in there about home studies and about writing profiles.

I'm finding that I'm having trouble concentrating lately. I keep starting all these projects, and I can't just work on one and get it finished. I think about adoption constantly, and I feel like I'm getting nothing done. I want to be productive again!! I thought about going to school and doing some work in my classroom, but I don't think I would be able to get anything done. That's why I'm eager to get the adoption information. Then I'll have something to do, and I won't be easily distracted from that at all.
