I called our social worker yesterday, and told her of our travel plans. She said she's taking off work next week too. She asked if there was a way to contact us while we're gone, and I said we'd take along my husband's cell phone. She said that even if the birthmother chooses us, there won't be a rush for us to come back. They didn't meet the birthmother until after she gave birth, so she hasn't had much counseling, plus they need some medical history and info.

She had very limited information about the baby. The baby was born on Sunday (the day after our anniversary), and was a couple weeks early. He/she's in interim care and appears to be doing well. Today the birthmother is going to visit her baby and look at profiles in a general way. She hasn't defined exactly what she wants, so they can't be sure if the families she is shown will work for her. All she's said is that she wants a childless couple. Our case worker said that this is to our advantage since most of the couples in her case load have children.

The birthmother who had the baby due last week Saturday has given birth to her baby. They were going to show her profiles in the hospital, but she didn't want to look at them. Then last week was going to look at them, but she called and said that she wants to parent. They were surprised about this since she seemed "adoption focused", but think one reason she decided to parent is because her younger sister just had a baby that she will be parenting. My social worker seems to think that once she has the baby (it's in interim care now), she'll change her mind. I'm not going to hold my breathe though.

So, we're going to go on our vacation Monday, come back the following Tuesday. While we're gone I will try not to think about babies. When we get back I have to call our social worker for an update.
