My Journey
Interview Scheduled!
Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2004 @ 5:13 p.m.

When I got home from work yesterday I couldn't help but be hopeful that the agency had called and left a message. When I saw the answering machine's light flashing I tried to tell myself that there would probably be just some political messages. There were five new messages: two blank ones, two political one, and da da da DA (trumpets sounding) one from the agency.

The message was from the infant adoption social worker that we haven't met yet. She said they got our application last week and that she wanted to set up a meeting with us next week at the soonest. At the meeting we would go over our application, get paperwork, and we could ask questions. She said she was at work until 4:00. It was already 4:30, so I had to wait until today to call

Today I tried calling during my lunch break, getting privacy in the principal's office, but she wasn't available. I didn't want to leave voice mail since I didn't want her calling me at school and talking to the secretary. I tried again after school. I was going to go home early, but amazingly, the secretary left early instead, so I had the office to myself. I figured if the social worker wasn't there I'd leave a message to call me at home in 20 minutes. I called, and the social worker was there, so I was able to schedule a meeting. She said she knows that we both work. I said that my husband told me he could get away from work, and that I could come in the afternoon and get a substitute if necessary. She asked me when school gets out and was able to schedule a time afterwards, which was very nice of her. Our interview is set for next week Thursday at 3:00 pm.

The social worker said it would be helpful if we could bring our birth certificates, marriage license, and last year's tax return for her to photocopy. She said she doesn't need certified copies of the birth certificates and marriage license. She asked if I had any questions right then, and I said no. I told her we'd write them down and bring them to our meeting.

I hope the next week flies by quickly. I'm ready to start working on that paperwork. I'm even eager to have my medical exam!
