My Journey
Birthmom Meeting and Pictures of Us with the Baby
Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2005 @ 4:58 p.m.

We met the birthmom and her mother yesterday afternoon, and all went well. She answered all our questions and had a few for us. She didn't show much emotion at all. I nearly cried a couple times. One time was after she told us that she thought it would be good for us to raise her baby. The other time was when I told her that my dad had died in February. I'm sure it was very difficult for her. I took a picture of the birthmom and her mother and gave her a couple pictures of us from my brother's wedding. She said that she was writing a letter to show the baby when she gets older. She also wants to give us a sketchbook of drawing she has done. It includes the house the birthmom grew up in. I discovered that my interest in art was a big reason why we were picked. Before we left the agency we were given three pictures of the baby that a social worker had taken at the hopital. The birthmom had taken two others for herself and decided to give us three.

We saw the baby last night and took pictures. The family taking care of her is wonderful. They love that little girl so much. They would like to stay in touch with us so they can see what she looks like when she gets older. Of course we agreed.

The baby is much cuter and more beautiful than I could have anticipated. She really is a happy baby. I think it will be easy for her to get adjusted to a new home and her new parents. Of course we were only there for about an hour!

We're seeing her tonight again and if all goes well we will take her home Thursday morning. A name has been chosen, but we are keeping it a secret until she comes home.

It's been a busy day. I bought bedding and stuff to decorated the nursery. I took my mother-in-law along and she bought us a swing (among other things). I stopped by at school and brought home two crates of books. I also have started cleaning out my desk. There's lots to do there yet. Tomorrow the plan is to go baby clothes shopping.

Pictures: The first picture from the hospital. The second and third are of last night when we visited her.

One last comment...she's four weeks old today!
