My Journey
Relieved and Annoyed
Thursday, Jan. 13, 2005 @ 10:48 p.m.

Our social worker called us and left a message on Tuesday. The birthmother chose a couple that were more in-line with the amount of visits she wanted. That was fine with us. We weren't too comfortable with what this woman was asking.

My mother-in-law found out we were considering visits with the birthmother and she had a little conniption about it. My husband tried to explain things to her. He said that we have to be willing to consider visits if we want to adopt domestically within a reasonable amount of time. That's what the adoption agencies are encouraging birthmothers to do now days. If we want a closed adoption, we'll have to adopt internationally. My husband said his dad seemed to understand a little better than his mom. It's hard to educate your family about adoption.

We are making some progress with the foster care stuff. My husband brought in the form for my brother-in-law to have local clearance today. Yesterday I scheduled CPR and first aid classes for us on February 5

Today I came home to a message from our social worker saying she was working on our home study and realized that she didn't have the reference from our minister. She also had a couple more questions to ask us that she neglected to ask before.

I called our pastor and found out that he never did get anything from the agency. That means tomorrow I have to call the agency and try to get them to fax the reference to our pastor. Our minister was really nice about it. He said he would be willing to drop it off at the agency if that was what was needed.

I'm a little annoyed at the social worker for not telling us sooner that this reference was missing. We expected her to inform us about this long ago. I also have to try and find a time to call her and answer the questions she has. It's so hard with my work schedule. I can only call her during recess, and she usually isn't available when I call. Just when we think we have all our errands and phone calls done, there's more....
