My Journey
Another Profile Showing - Finally!
Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2008 @ 11:50 p.m.

Check back to yesterday's entry if you haven't read it yet for an update since last November.

There is finally some action at the agency. Today we got a call at noon about a baby due to be born next week. There were some questions about lifestyle choices by the birthmother before she found out she was pregnant that could affect the health of the baby. My husband answered the phone and didn't seem concerned about it. He gave me the phone, and I got more information. There is a possibility that the baby could be affected. I did some research to confirm my knowledge of the topic before deciding to show our profile. There is a 10% chance of the child being impacted by the mother's lifestyle. However we are aware of the worst case scenario and are willing to deal with it.

This situation comes to us from a different office that is about an hour away. I assume that means that there aren't many people in their office showing their profiles to her. They need to show her more families. This situation isn't one that all people will want to consider, and that can be an advantage for us.

As usual I'm thinking of all the reasons why she may want to choose us, and I can actually think of a couple reasons that might make us appealing to her given the small amount of information I was told. First, we both have young daughters already. She wants her daughter to meet the adoptive family. I'm thinking that having her baby in a home with a "big sister" might be something she'd like, since the baby has a biological half-sister already. Second, she seems to have a creative side to her, and I am a very creative person.

I was told the name of the birthmom (M.......) and the two potential birthdads (J... and C....), neither will cause problems with the adoption occurring. One guy may be impossible to locate and the other denies he is the father, but is supportive of the adoption.

After we hung up with the social worker I discovered that neither of us was told the gender of the baby or the exact due date (other than "next week"). We do know the name of the hospital where she will be giving birth and that they plan to put the baby into interim care, so we wouldn't be taking the baby home directly from the hospital. We also don't know when she is looking at profiles, but for some reason Friday is sticking out in my mind. I'm not sure how accurate that is. I was told that someone would be delivering our profile to the other office tomorrow (Wednesday).

So now there are two possibilities for this month. Will one of these babies be the one for us???? Wait and see.
